Corrugated Roads

goodlife guide

By Ginny Lowndes

Corrugated Roads is about a young girl’s funny and sometimes heartbreaking interpretation of the tragic and just plain bizare events in her family’s life in a drought-stricken Outback town in Australia’s 1950s. Told in 27 inter-linked short stories, Corrugated Roads has been described by writer, Geoffrey Dean as “a gritty telling and a book I couldn’t put down. And, in spite of its serious subject matter, there is relief in the unexpected humour that arises out of the girl’s imaginative misconceptions about events beyond her experience.”

Alan Marshall, Writer (I Can Jump Puddles) said, “Her stories are amazingly varied… but tying them all together is a natural understanding of human character and a keen eye to record the significant. These are extremely modern and frank stories.”
