Old Bones
By Myrna Muton Morrison
Night visits, from a spirit who uses the painting to communicate with her, starts. Is she going mad or is she really being contacted by someone from beyond the grave? Something wakes her in the night. Julia becomes aware of a voice, murmuring, in the deep silence surrounding her bed. And then a child’s cry, so filled, with anguish, that it touches her soul. Whose voice was this? Julia reaches over and turns on the bedside lamp. A noise near the closet makes her turn her head. The clothing cupboard opens slowly and the painting, she had hidden behind her clothes, floats across the room, to land on the bottom of the bed with a gentle thump. Julia watches in fascination as the painting comes to life. A thin nebulous mist rises from the ground in front of the gravestone. It hangs suspended, indecisive, as if waiting for something
